If it seems like it's been raining a lot this winter, well, it hasn't really.
Southwest Florida Water Management District figures show that in the south region, which includes Highlands, Charlotte, Hardee, Manatee and Sarasota counties, 3.5 inches were received from Jan. 1 to Feb. 10.
About 4.8 inches is the January-February average, so another 1.3 inches are needed this month just to achieve that mark.
The aquifer is doing better, though. On Feb. 10, the South level was 4.66. On the same date last year, it was down almost 3 feet. The normal range is from 0 to 8 feet.
