A 73-year-old driver died Saturday evening from injuries after his 2007 Honda van struck another vehicle on U.S. 27, close to the SweetBay Supermarket exit, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Kenneth E. Hallaway, from Hagerstown, M.D., was trying to go west on the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 from the grocery store's exit at about 6:45 p.m. when he traveled in the path of a 2005 Chevy Suburban that hit him on the left side, the FHP said.
After impact, the Honda skidded in the northerly direction and came to a stop in the median, facing south. The Suburban came to a rest in the inside lane, the FHP added.
The Suburban's driver, Everett L. Jones, 29, from Winter Haven, had minor injuries. They were both wearing their seat belts, the FHP added.
