After reading the article about the Humane Society "It's all about them" in the Highlands Today on Monday, Feb. 8, I noticed that it was our dog Rainea mentioned in the article. We adopted Rainea last spring from the Humane Society. She was dropped off as a puppy and remained there for two years until we found her.
Rainea had many fears when we brought her home. She was terrified of cars, visitors to our home, any new sounds and certainly strangers.
My daughter Kaley is a member of the 4-H dog club and AKC here in Highlands County. She began training Rainea in obedience, agility and other areas to compete in some of the dog shows. This is the most fabulous dog you can imagine! She has made an amazing turn-around since we brought her home.
My daughter has been instrumental in the dog's transformation. By showing her love and taking the time to train (and play with) Rainea, she's developed trust and confidence.
Kaley and Rainea have been in several dog shows and have won several ribbons. Most recently she placed third in obedience at the Tampa State Fair. I want to thank Melissa Fiorta at the Humane Society for believing in Rainea and working with her fears.
Adopting Rainea has been a wonderful experience for our family.
