Twice this week the Highlands Today has published articles that prove the point that CRAs need to go away.
A pleasant article supporting the community center and the arts program was a great read but again...how is that removing slum and blight?
If the objective was to help the community center operate in the black why not just give the money directly and cut out the middle man?
As the Highlands Little Theatre struggles to meet its financial obligations, the AP CRA sees fit to compete with it and use taxpayer funds in the process. This community needs to come together, not compete at taxpayer expense.
Then we hear more about the Cox-Sims, Hopewell Academy, Mid-Florida Center and how taxpayer funds were spent and ultimately pocketed. What a great use of taxpayer funds!
Abolish the CRA, lower my millage, and let me spend my money how I see fit.
AP voters need to watch the CRA and remember its actions in future elections.
The CRA board is the city council. It meets the last Monday at 5 p.m.
