Highlands County plans to spend $295,000 this year in road improvements.
Two intersections are on the list: Hammock Road and Lakewood Avenue, and Sparrow Avenue and U.S. 27.
When the Lakeshore Mall movies end, Sparrow's intersection with U.S. 27 often gets jammed, said Highlands County Engineer Ramon Gavarette. He received permission from the county commission to begin a $40,000 preliminary design and environmental impact study on the intersection, which also floods during ordinary rainfalls.
Capacity and safety improvements will be made at Hammock and Lakewood intersection; $84,491 includes construction.
