Girl Scouts thanks businesses for contributions

The Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. and Highlands County Girl Scouts would like to thank several local businesses for their contribution of prizes to the 6th Annual "Cindy's girl Scout Cookie Eating Contest" that was recently held at the Highlands County Fair. This event is held each year in honor of a wonderful lady named Cindy Chambers who was a lifetime member of Girl Scouting and a Master Trainer in the organization.

She initiated this contest and it is in her memory that we continue this tradition. Tradition is a major part of the Girl Scout movement that Juliette Gordon Low started in 1912.

On behalf of Girl Scouts, I want to personally thank the following local businesses for their most generous contribution of prizes to our event: Peter DuPriest at Harder Hall Golf Course; Will Lovette at Beef O'Brady's; Bobby Fulcher, George Karabinis and Gabriela Mendoza at Caddyshack, Glen Bartnick at Zeno's South; Chris Chandler at Kegel Bowling Center; Linda Crowder at Children's Museum of the Highlands; Jackie Kennon at Lakeshore 8 Cinema; Dan Mahaffey at Dairy Queen South and Movie Gallery.

I would also like to thank the Girl Scout Leaders who attended the event: Service unit manager Dianne Brewington, Laura Hare, Corinna Hobson (and friends,) Brenda Gibson and Manager of the Eastern Region Peggy Becerra.

Additionally thanks to Girl Scouts Mariah Brewington and Cassandra Hare. I also appreciate the assistance from Don and Jonathan Brewington.

Without the generous donation of prizes from the businesses mentioned, we could not have achieved this great community event. If you find yourself patronizing any of these companies, please let them know just how much they are appreciated.

Kudos Clayton Auto Air

My wife had a problem with the blower motor for her heater-air conditioning system in her car. We took it to Clayton Auto Air in Avon Park.

They diagnosed the failure of the blower motor itself.

They ordered the part and called us when it came in the next day. We took the car to them for the repairs.

They called a little later stating that they had received the wrong part, but that they had repaired the faulty motor to work until the correct part arrived.

They did not ask for payment for the work completed at that time; they trusted us to bring it back.

They called a few days later stating that the correct part was in. I took the car back and they completed the repair while I waited.

The bill was considerably less than the original estimate. I would trust them with any repair; they do accurate and honest work.
