A local country fair is celebrating its 44th anniversary through a weekend of entertainment, arts, crafts and food offerings.

The Lake Placid Arts and Crafts Country Fair will go on from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in DeVane Park, downtown Lake Placid.

The festival's Park Chairwoman Carol Mills explained there are two parts to the fair.

On one hand, vendors selling arts, crafts and food, and the music will be in DeVane Park. Organizers are expecting more than 165 booths.

The second part comprises judged exhibits by local artists, who will display their entries at Lake Placid Elementary School during fair hours.

Amateur and professional entries will be accepted in each division with prizes awarded accordingly.

A student classification brochure is available for elementary, middle school and high school students. All students are encouraged to enter.

The entries will be displayed and judged with prizes awarded.

The classification listings for the judging can be obtained from the Country Fair Office, located in the rear of the Caladium Co-op, at 132 E. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid.

Divisions include arts, photography, porcelain, woodcrafts, crafts, needlecrafts, stitchery and fabric crafts, yarn and cord crafts, foods and poetry. Entries for all, except poems, will be accepted between 3 to 5 p.m. today at the elementary school.

Admission to both parts of the fair is free.

Visitors can park at Lake Placid Elementary School, Lake Placid High School or Lake Placid Town Hall and a free shuttle service will take them to and from DeVane Park.
