As a Sun 'n Lake resident, I would like to thank Florida Hospital and Tanglewood for giving Gene Gangemi their proxy votes for our election on Jan. 22. He had the overwhelming support of the residents but needed their support to ensure a victory.
The board members who have controlled Sun 'n Lake for years have done so by getting the large landowner proxy votes. The pool of these voters has dwindled because of their failure to pay their assessments. Therefore, those that remained became critical players in this election.
Gene Gangemi stepped up to the plate and announced his candidacy, win or lose, on day one. However, our current election rules allow a person to solicit proxy votes without a formal announcement. It allows them to "test the waters" to see if they can get enough committed proxy votes to win. If not, they can say "they decided not to run or are going to hang it up."
With the support of these two fine corporate neighbors, we are able to put the final nail in the coffin of poor government in Sun 'n Lake. For many years it has been at the center of our less than desirable reputation. We can now move forward and will be able to say, "I live in Sun 'n Lake and am proud of it!"
