Tax bill success just a start

»  Comments | Post a Comment

There is much ado about the political aspects of the president's comments regarding getting bi-partisian agreement on the proposed tax cut bill. President Obama is calling it a compromise between the two parties and many in his own party are very upset and saying he is not tough enough to stand on his own convictions.

It would be rarely that this column gets beyond the bounds of Highlands County unless it is sent to friends or relatives who live in other states. The upcoming new leader of the majority Republican Congress, John Boehner, may be thinking of the compromise as a victory and not wanting to be boastful used the words "common ground" in stating the success of getting an agreement with the president regarding our taxes.

I stated in that Thanksgiving column, "Ask that He (God) will provide our country's political leadership with an avenue upon which some common ground can be tread that good bi-partisanship will lead to solutions, which can benefit both parties and their constituents desires without more debt."

Regardless, I believe it is a step in the right direction and hope that the president can also think that he did not lose but got most of what was wanted and needed for the best of the country as a whole.

It's believed that the bill to extend the Bush-era tax-cut compromise will get the Senate's approval sometime this week.

Huge national debtAll Americans of all parties and convictions must eventually realize that we cannot continue to keep spending more than what is taken in each year. The deficit caused by extravagant spending must be curtailed. We all are part of the problem of the national debt. For most of my life they have been saying we are spending money that our children will eventually have to pay somehow. I doubt that anyone knows of anyone who has any idea of how we can pay back the money we are continuing to borrow from China. Or anyone who may have any idea of how a debt of $120 trillion can be eliminated or paid faster that the interest makes it grow.

We are the children of those parents who were talking back in the 1940s and 1950s about who will be paying off our loans; and we continue to take the loans from China who gladly gives us what we need to keep our lifestyles more extravagant than we deserve.

China's plan?It does not take a rocket scientist to know why China gives us what our government asks for. This generation of politicians knows they will not be alive when China calls in her loans and we will not be able to give them anything but the U.S.A as a whole. The whole of Fort Knox's gold does not contain enough to even put a dent on $120 trillion.

If every billionaire in our country put in $10 billion toward the debt, there would have to be 120,000 billionaires having 10 billion they do not need available to do so.

Look around and see how many states are failing to have the money needed to continue their day to day operations without getting some assistance. Look at how many services are already being cut to try to stay within their budget.

I am preaching to an audience who, as well as I, does not know what we are willing to give up in helping our economy.

The government needs to stop pork barrel spending and they need to get more taxes from us. And they need to stay within the nation's income.

I do not want my grandchildren to become China's puppets.
