The Humane Society of Highlands County will be opening a spay/neuter clinic on Sept. 13.
Board president Barbara Clark said the decision has been on their "radar screen for over three years."
"This clinic will provide the shelter with minimal financial support," Clark said. "Our purpose is to provide low cost spay and neutering to the community to help decrease the number of unwanted puppies and kittens born each year."
Surgeries will be done every Monday and appointments are required. No walk-ins will be accepted, according to a press release.
Drop-off times on surgery days are 7:30 to 9 a.m. Pick-up is between 4 and 6 p.m., according to the Humane Society's Web site.
Requirements include:
•Proof of vaccinations/de-worming must be presented before surgery
•Puppies must be 12 weeks old and have at least one set of shots/de-worming with proof provided. Two sets are preferred.
•Dogs four months of age and older must have rabies vaccinations. If not, it will be done for a nominal fee.
•Dogs over the age of seven years have the opportunity for pre-surgical examinations and blood work if wanted by owner or deemed necessary by the doctor.
