Humane Society receives quilts, cash

A presentation was made recently at Highlands County Quilt Guild to the Humane Society of Highlands County.

Approximately 100 small quilts were made and dedicated to the memory of Teresa Vasilchik Seigle of Lake Placid, an animal lover and avid quilter. Her family was there to participate in the presentation to Vanessa Richardson, a representative from the Humane Society.

The group also made a cash donation.

Teresa's mother, Nancy Vasilchik, owner of Sew Biz in Lake Placid, accepted a certificate dedicating the community service project in her daughter's name.

Each year the guild conducts community service projects to benefit local charities.

Guild members donate their time, fabric and talents to give back to the community.

"It is our way of giving back and thanking the community for their support at our biennial Quilt Show and yearly quilt raffle," a press release said.
