A man was injured Sunday after a shooting lesson between a father and his two children backfired.

An affidavit charging culpable negligence has been submitted to the state attorney's office for consideration, according to Highlands County Sheriff's Lt. Gus Garcia.

The accident happened around 7:44 p.m. Sunday in a pasture off State Road 66 and County Road 635, where a father was showing his two children how to properly fire a pump action rifle, Garcia said.

One of the shots struck a man in the leg who was working on a nearby EMS tower. The man was later treated at Highlands Regional Medical Center, according to Garcia. His injury was not life-threatening.

"He was not critical," Garcia said. "He was stable."
