A 55-year-old driver who ran a red light and hit another car caused a chain reaction of accidents that involved three other vehicles stopped in the opposite lane Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
The 1995 Ford was going north on U.S. 27 when the driver ran a red light at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Morrill Street in Avon Park and hit another Ford that was going west and had the right of way, according to Avon Park Police Commander Mike Rowan.
The second Ford then bumped into two vehicles that were stopped at the red light on the south-bound lane. They, in turn, hit a third vehicle parked behind them, Rowan added.
Three people were taken to Florida Hospital for minor injuries.
