Regarding J. Ron Smith's letter in the Sept. 4 issue. Mr. Smith is concerned because "Rep. Rooney had already made up his mind to vote against the health care reform bill, no matter the content." Well, from what I have read in this newspaper, Rep. Tom Rooney has done something that virtually no Democrat congressperson has done so far; he actually read the bill (HR 3200.)
I'm sure his vote is mostly based on his reading and interpretation of the bill. Most Democrat congresspersons had expressed support of this bill within hours of it being issued; many have still commented that they have not yet read the bill, but still support it.
I guess I'd rather have a Republican in Congress that has read the bill and does not support it to a Democrat who has not read the bill, has no plans for reading it and still is planning on voting for the bill.
Any member of Congress who votes for or against any bill without reading and understanding the bill does not deserve their paycheck. This lack of responsibility and the president's wanting to rush into law every one of his ideas is leading this country deeper into debt than even George Bush could have imagined.
