SEBRING After a Labor Day break, Highlands County commissioners will have heavy lifting to do on three issues at their 9 a.m. today.
First, the county's comprehensive plan must be updated again, and the commissioners want to look over Evaluation and Appraisal Report amendments. For several months, the Long Range Transportation Committee and the county planning department has been studying their requests to the Florida Department of Community Affairs.
A workshop is also scheduled on a proposed honorary naming rights policy for the county, and Lakes Manager Clell Ford is asking for approval for the Istokpoga residential canal project agreement with the state Department of Environmental Protection.
In the meeting of the districts, two public hearings are scheduled.
One approves sale and lease agreements for the Istokpoga Marsh Watershed District and Highlands County for water storage and stormwater reuse.
The second allows commissioners to levy an assessment for the Thunderbird Road Wastewater Special Benefit District.
The county has been willing to fix decades-old problems with the community sewage system, but residents must pay for those improvements.
