Southbound traffic on U.S. 27 was moving along at a snail's pace for almost an hour as emergency crews responded to a four-vehicle accident at the Sparta Road intersection.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, but a 2004 Infiniti, driven by Abimael Colon, 31, of 1436 W. Gladiola Drive, Avon Park, become lodged under the trailer of a semi, which was driven by Ernesto Suarez, 39, of Hialeah. Two other cars were also struck as a result of the accident.

Colon was airlifted from the scene as a precautionary measure, according to Sebring Police Cmdr. Steve Carr.

The accident happened around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. By 11:40, the scene had been cleared and traffic was moving smoothly again.
