Veterans Day 2009, "America's Shame," "No man left behind," shallow words indeed.
With the forgotten veterans of World War II and after 900,000-plus veterans with claims not being addressed, we now have the most shameful Congress and Senate in American history.
The Congress and Senate give themselves raises, leaving the veterans behind. Who is the inner circle of the Veterans Administration? America needs to know these people. Are they getting shameful bonuses for non-performance as our elected Congress does?
We the taxpayers are providing security for most of the world's nations; military bases providing an economy around the world. Yet we have veterans 80 and older who will not live to see their claims addressed.
Gen. McArthur, in his farewell address to Congress, expressed it best when he made the statement: "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away."
We, as fellow veterans, cannot leave any veteran behind. The Veterans of Foreign Wars should raise holy hell with this Congress, not the next Congress, to correct this problem.
Money, surely, is not the problem; we are building Iraq, providing health care for over 20 million illegals; giving million dollar bonuses to losers in the banking industry.
We must not allow these veterans to die of "old age" before their claims are addressed.
