Lake Placid, Sebring and Avon Park have set trick or treat hours for Saturday, Halloween Day.
Sebring and Avon Park trick or treating is from 6 to 9 p.m. There is no time set for trick or treating in Lake Placid. Elementary-school children are invited to Lake Placid for the fifth annual Fall Festival from 4-7:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free to the event in DeVane Park.
Children are encouraged to come in costume for games, crafts, face painting, entertainment and plenty of treats. Food vendors will be available.
Halloween safety tips
•Children should go out during daylight hours unless accompanied by an adult.
•Do not allow your children to eat any candy until you are able to properly inspect it.
•Have your children carry a flashlight or put reflective tape on their costumes so they are visible to motor vehicles.
•Instruct your children to stay in groups and well-lighted areas.
•Instruct your children not to go into the homes of strangers or get into anyone's vehicle.
•For small children place an emergency identification information tag discreetly inside their clothing, in case they become separated from their group.
•Discuss with your children the difference between tricks and vandalism.
•Clear your yard and sidewalks of any obstacles or decorations that are difficult to see in the dark.
•Report any unusual or suspicious activity to your local law enforcement agency.
