Avon Park police say a Frostproof man suffered a severe foot injury and was flown to Tampa General Hospital Friday after his vehicle collided with a tree.

Avon Park Police Cmdr. Mike Rowan said Adolph Pace, 26, was in stable condition Monday for non life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened around 4:07 p.m. Friday on U.S. 27 just north of the Lake Isis intersection, according to Rowan.

"He was on his way back home from a medical procedure down at Florida Hospital," Rowan said. "He must have passed out at the wheel."

Rowan would not disclose just what that procedure was, but said Pace had no business being behind the wheel of a car so soon.

Pace was also cited for having multiple suspensions on driver's license, no proof of insurance and reckless driving, Rowan said.
