Mr. Alviano, you have made Mr. Doty's letter look like it's the more sensible of the two; in fact, your letter is hilarious to most reasonable Americans.
First, the conservative Republicans only want our government to follow the constitution which the liberal Democrats want to ignore or re-write to their wishes.
Social Security, Medicare and unemployment payments are programs that we have taken out of our paychecks; they are not giveaways.
Yes, food stamps and Medicaid are programs that our government has set up as safety nets for the poor, and most Americans support this if it is not abused, which in many cases it is.
Now, for the bailouts and the takeover of the auto industry, this is government at its worse.
If I ran a business and ran it inefficiently, would the government bail me or anyone else out?
No, because that is the way the free market works. True capitalism is to let the unhealthy and inefficient fail and has been the way our free market has worked for years. We already have massive unemployment even with the bailouts, so it did work.
Now, if you think premiums will go down under a government-run health care, I have a bridge I want to sell you.
Nothing that the government has ever done has worked the way they said it would work, just the opposite.
You decided to use the same old talking points of the environmentalist when it comes to global warming; you are ignoring 90 percent of the scientists who have said this whole thing is a myth.
For all you who love Socialism and the global warming money making scheme, I suggest you move to another country that already has those issues as gospel.
There are flights every day of the year and we wish you the best; but quit trying to change our constitution to benefit your own wishes.
There is 50-plus percent of the population who does not agree with you and your radical colleagues who want everything your way.
