Friday morning as a Rotary volunteer I worked the Salvation Army Circle for Cash and Cans. Giving is definitely down with our economy. However, nickels and dimes do count and they add up so next time you see a bell ringer and don't have any folding money just give your change. It all adds up.
It was heart warming to have Jim Terry recognize me and make the drive around the Circle and back to give a donation. As did another unknown gentleman in a red Chevrolet pickup. I also remember the 18-wheeler driver handing me money, the school bus driver thrusting his hand out the window, and the young man who emptied his change which must have been over 75 pennies. But these all count.
It's sad to note that those with less to give always give and those with more often neglect. Let's try and make this year special and even if you have made your annual donation and see a bell ringer at a kettle give a nickel or dime. Your donation could help someone have dinner on their table or their electricity on.
The Salvation Army board will be ringing the bell today at both Publix stores. Rotarians will man the kettles again Friday, Dec 11 at Walgreens south. There will be a barbecue as well with all proceeds going to the Salvation Army. Call Robert Strenth to preorder: racks of ribs, Boston butts, tubs of pork, pork and rib meals at 381-5127.
Thank you all and may each and every one of you and yours have a blessed holiday season.
