A Lake Placid man allegedly struck his 69-year-old mother-in-law several times and locked all her clothes, a laptop and phone wires in his bedroom after a Monday morning argument.
Marc David Cram, 47, of Lake Placid, was charged with battery on a person 65 years of age or older, a third-degree felony. He was released from the Highlands County Jail Tuesday on a $5,000 bond.
Cram's wife told police that he and her mother were arguing Monday morning before Cram pushed her backwards against a bedroom wall.
Police could not interview the victim because of a language barrier, but she made motions indicating that she was hit in the head and pushed backwards, according to the arrest report.
The victim did not appear stable on her feet while police tried to interview her.
Cram told police that he and his wife had been arguing that morning over a cellphone and his mother-in-law, who was staying with them, had grabbed him by the back of his head while he was in her room looking for the phone and kicked him in the groin twice, the report stated.
The suspect told police he took away the victim's phone wires and laptop because he could not afford to pay for the cellphone or Internet connection anymore.
He could not give an answer as to why he took and locked up all her clothes, according to the report.
Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Giguere made the arrest.
