The bomb threat called in Thursday afternoon at the Royal Care of Avon Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center turned out to be just that - a threat.
"There was no explosive device of any kind found," said Lt. Tim Lethbridge, with the Highlands County Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigations Unit, on Friday.
The call came in just before 4 p.m. Thursday and led to the evacuation of all 90 residents and dozens of staff members.
As the search of the building went on, cell phones were turned off and radio communication stopped as per protocol when dealing with a bomb threat.
The threat disrupted a scheduled Harvest Moon Ball that was being held for the residents, according to Royal Care staff.
No one has been charged in connection with the threat and it is still under investigation, according to Lethbridge.
"We are pursuing leads, but I can't reveal the nature of those leads at this time," he said.
Anyone with information should contact Det. Roger St. Laurent with the sheriff's office at (863) 402-7200.
