The American Legion Women's Auxiliary Unit 69 of Avon Park is looking for two high school junior girls to participate in this year's Girls State in Tallahassee.
High school girls with good grades, who belong to school and outside organizations and would like to meet with the other 300 girls from Florida in Tallahassee this July for a week of politics and government should apply.
The week of July 1-9 will be spent at Florida State University under the guidance of Legion Auxiliary members. While there, participants be forming mock governments, city, county and state, be electioneering, meeting with Florida senators, representatives and visiting the state capital.
In addition, participants can earn college and high school credits. The Auxiliary Committee will be visiting the school early December so participants should check with their guidance counselor for the dates.
