Thank you Mr. Doty, I've not read a funnier letter to the editor in quite some time.
Let's first deal with your idea of liberalism equals socialism. True both ideologies believe everyone should have a say in how both the economy and government works. Its true democracy!
Now communism is opposite to that idea. It wants control in fewer hands; just like conservatism, which is the idea Republicans want.
The U.S. has been a quasi socialistic country for the past 80 or more years. Just look at the government programs since the 1930s. You have Social Security, unemployment payments, food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, bank bailouts and auto industry ownership. You see that is not true capitalism, because true capitalism is survival of the fittest. We would have had massive unemployment and other countries would insist we pay our loans in full.
Now if healthcare goes through, private premiums will go down. Why you ask? It is because hospitals, clinics and doctors would not pass the cost of treatment of the uninsured onto the insurance companies. Yes you are paying for the uninsured every time your premium goes up, read the fine print in your policy.
As to global warming; Google it. Plants need Co2 and give off 02, but we are losing our vegetation due to expansion and the need for lumber (steel studs instead.) There is too much Co2; the balance of nature is off. It is no longer a benefit but rather a toxin (Environmental Chemistry.com.)
