There are many patriotic American holidays but none is more special and personal than Veterans Day. I believe this is because our nation was born through sacrifices of those who answered the call of duty. We cannot see or talk to those whom have served and gone to heaven's gates but there are still many here and many to come that are just like the ones before.
This call of duty is very special to Americans. Although there has been a terrible time when we fought each other, it has made us a better country for history is a learning process and we all fall short. We have never fought to take another country's land; on the contrary we have fought to protect the lives and land of others. The call of duty for this nation is a righteous one and has made our soldiers the best in the world.
There are many hardships to endure when one answers the call of duty, whether volunteering or even being drafted as were many. It means being ready at all times to leave family. It means no matter how dangerous the conditions of deployment you will not complain and cannot and will not quit. It means the very citizens you defend may disrespect you publicly and burn the flag of the country you defend. It can mean that even the president may suggest the most insensitive, unpatriotic and foolish ideas such as get your own health insurance for your war wounds. All of this and the life you have to put in harms way for your country will not hinder the soldier's mission. The call of duty is much greater. As a Christian nation it is noted biblically that there is no greater gift to give than to give up your life for another.
Our advancing technology in all fields has saved and improved the lives of all Americans and many others. Our Christian clergy has saved many souls here and abroad. All of this is possible because of the unwavering commitment of the American soldiers' call of duty.
