Thomas Bunton, who belongs to Boy Scout Troop 482, has chosen a timely subject for his Eagle Scout project.
At 6 p.m. on Nov. 11 at DeVane Park, Bunton will have a flag retirement ceremony and candle light vigil to honor Veterans Day.
"Anyone wishing to honor a loved one or a friend can join Tom in Lake Placid at DeVane Park and learn the meaning of our flag," stated a press release.
Those attending should bring a yellow candle to honor those currently in the military. For civilian services like fire, police, and those in emergency medical services, bring a white candle. And those who have lost someone in any of these services can bring a black candle.
Bunton is a 16-year-old sophomore at Lake Placid High School where he plays varsity football and baseball.
He belongs to the Army JROTC and Youth For Christ.
He wants to attend the naval academy after graduating from high school.
Thomas Bunton is the second son of Charles and Kim Bunton. His brother Timothy earned his Eagle Scout badge two years ago after he collected more than 500 U.S. flags and retired them during a salute to patriots on 9-11 2007.
