In reference to article "Running for president" May 23, here is my response: The writer needs to get his/her facts straight before making incorrect bold statements.
The citizens of Hawaii voted overwhelmingly in favor of becoming an American state in 1958.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill on March 18, 1959, which allowed for Hawaiian statehood. Hawaii formally became the 50th state of the Union on August 21, 1959.
President Barack Obama, 47, was born August, 1961 ... 2 years later.
