Man Charged With Fighting, Kicking Child

SEBRING - Scott Martin, 37, was arrested Sunday and charged with cruelty toward a child and misdemeanor battery.

Martin allegedly shoved a man several times, which led to a fight. Neither person suffered any injuries.

A child witness to the fight reportedly became upset and started crying. Martin became impatient and dragged the witness into a bedroom and kicked the second victim in the knee, according to the arrest report. The kick caused slight bruising and swelling.

Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Austin Garza made the arrest.

Man Arrested On Extortion Charge

AVON PARK - Demetris Roshay Wiliams, 34, of 907 Woodrow Ave., Avon Park, was arrested Monday and charged with extortion or threats.

Williams threatened to kick in the door of another man's residence if the victim did not pay him $1,000, according to the arrest report. The suspect reportedly had extorted money from the same man on several different occasions before law enforcement got involved.

Avon Park Police Officer Christy Harbaugh made the arrest.
