When 28-year-old Okeechobee resident Angel Pulido answered a knock on his front door early Wednesday afternoon, he was shot with a handgun by one of the two men who entered his residence and then demanded money and drugs from his girlfriend, authorities said.
As Pulidio collapsed and died from the gunshot wound, one of the home invaders shot and killed the victim's 90-pound pit bull dog. The men took money and drugs and then fled in the female resident's SUV, according to the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect's getaway from the crime, which occurred at 12:07 p.m., was brief.
A Be On The Lookout alert was issue by the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office, and soon after, Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Andy Spires spotted the stolen vehicle south of Lake Placid.

With a search perimeter set in the area, including the Bear Hollow subdivision, the Highlands County Sheriff's Office captured the second suspect at 1:42 p.m.

Charges he incurred locally include: a warrant for violation of probation for carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon and several counts of residential burglary for trying to enter residences to hide, Benton said.
