Katina Kramer grew up in Avon Park and attended Avon Park Middle School where she returns today to meet the staff in preparation for taking over as principal next school year.
Superintendent Wally Cox's selected Kramer for the position from a list of five applicants.
"That is all the way back to my stomping ground," Kramer said Monday. "That's where I went to school; that's where I was born and raised and still living; so I'm very excited."
Kramer is in her third year as a district-office based administrator - the director of secondary programs.
Prior to her working at the district office, she was assistant principal of Lake Placid Middle School, and before that, a teacher and dean at Sebring Middle School.
Avon Park Middle Principal Dan Johnson, who is retiring at the end of the school year, is working with her to create a smooth transition, Kramer said.
He's asking for input on some of the bigger decisions, such as the master schedule, the new classroom building and changes in the cafeteria, Kramer said.
"Because of my position here at the district office, I get to work with all of the secondary schools so the other nice thing is that I have already been working with that staff Avon Park Middle with their school improvement plan and different things."
With approval of her selection by the school board, Kramer would start her new position on July 1.
