Council Votes 4-1 On Airport Water Amendment

It was simply called Resolution No. 2009-5 approving budget amendment No. 25, for the acquisition of the Sebring Airport Authority water and sewer systems and it was passed by a 4-1 vote in the consent agenda.

City Councilman Scott Stanley cast the dissenting vote, stating he didn't think it was worth it.

On Sept. 20, 2007, the city entered into an inter-local agreement to set forth terms for the transfer of the water and wastewater systems to be transferred.

On Dec. 2, 2008, the council approved the purchase of the airport's water and sewer systems, including land, lines and equipment. The money for this purchase comes from the general fund as an advance to the utilities fund to complete the transaction.

This resolution approves and authorizes the transfer of $704,953 from the general fund as an advance, $120,050 to purchase the land and $584,903 from the utilities' line fund.

Taste Of The Race

The Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce received permission for a temporary road closure of Circle Park for the Taste of the Race event, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Thursday, March 19.

The event features vintage race cars and food vendors.

Easter Service

Council approved the use of Circle Park for a sunrise Easter Service, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., April 12.

This is an annual request that has been approved by the council in prior years.

Rezone Lemon Street Property

By a unanimous vote the council approved on second and final reading the rezoning of a property at 623 Lemon St.

The zoning is not consistent in several properties in Washington Heights in that certain properties are zoned C-1 Commercial but the land use designation is for residential.

It was originally planned to rezone all the lots, but it was decided to just address the property in question and let the Community Redevelopment Agency deal with the rest during its zoning efforts.

A public hearing was held on Feb. 10, and the city's planning and zoning board recommended approval of the rezoning.

The landowner wanted to demolish the existing structure and build a new home, but could not because single family homes were not allowed in the C-1 zoning. As of Tuesday's meeting, residential use will be permitted in its new mixed use designation.
