Sex Offender Charged With Failing To Report Address Change

A convicted sex offender remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond Wednesday, after sheriff's investigators say he moved from his last known Avon Park address without notifying authorities.

Earnest Crawford Jr., 47, of last known address, 937 S. Delaney Ave., was charged with failure of a sexual offender to report a change of address.

Sheriff's Central Records Clerks stated Wednesday that Crawford was arrested at the jail Tuesday when he came in to re-register as a convicted sexual offender.

On Nov. 14, sheriff's investigators went to conduct a verification of address with Crawford Jr., when they discovered a new tenant and that the new tenant had been living there for two weeks.

Investigators checked with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to see if Crawford Jr. had updated his address. He had not.

Crawford was convicted on July 3, 2000 in Highlands County for having unlawful sexual activity with a minor 16 or 17 years old.

Crawford re-registered as a sexual offender on Sept. 9, at the 937 S. Delaney Ave. address. Sexual offenders must re-register any change in address, permanent of temporary, within 48 hours, under Florida law.
