A bond was set Monday for an Avon Park man accused of shooting another in the chest at an Avon Park street corner back in December.

Altus Jermar Lee, 20, of 2430 N. Dunwoodie Road, Avon Park, is charged with attempted first-degree murder. He is also charged in a separate case with carrying a concealed firearm, altering a firearm, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lee's bond was set at $100,000 on the attempted murder charge and $2,500 for the others. He remained in Highlands County Jail on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old victim told law enforcement he was at a Hopewell Academy party on Dec. 27 when Lee started arguing with him about a girl.

He told the suspect the problem was between him and his girl before leaving the party and going to the intersection at Hal McRae and Delaney, according to the police report.

Lee came up to him and got so close that the victim shoved him away. He then heard two gunshots and "felt a pain in his chest," the report said.

The victim did not see the gun or Lee pull the trigger, but was told by people that "he shot you, that (expletive) shot you."

His injuries were listed as non life-threatening.
