Van, golf cart chase ends in arrest

A two-vehicle chase in Lake Placid, where a 74-year-old man on a golf cart was reportedly trying to evade his 72-year-old girlfriend who was behind the wheel of a van, ended with damages to a yard and an arrest for assault and battery charges.

Doris E. Tarr, 72, of 107 Oak Groves St., Lake Placid, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, damaging property/criminal mischief over $200 and burglary of an unoccupied dwelling while unarmed.

She was out of jail Tuesday on an $11,500 bond.

Law enforcement went to the Oak Groves Street home after Tarr allegedly tried to stab her 74-year-old boyfriend of four months with a screwdriver, according to the arrest report. The suspect told authorities there was nothing wrong and she and the man were arguing about the two no longer seeing each other.

The man told authorities he'd gone to Tarr's home at her request to retrieve some of his possessions. She became upset and said, "I'm going to kill you due to you messing up my life and me being a wreck," the report stated.

Tarr then allegedly tried to stab the man with the screwdriver and wound up lacerating his arms several times.

The man left on his golf cart and went back to his home. Tarr, however, was not far behind in her Chrysler van.

When she got to the residence, Tarr allegedly stayed behind the wheel and started chasing the man around the side and back yard, while he tried to get away on his golf cart.

The chase caused lots of damage to the lawn, the report stated, and the man did avoid being hit.

Once the chase was over, Tarr reportedly went into the man's home, took pictures off the wall and threw them to the ground and broke several other items.

These items had been owned by the victim's late wife, the report stated. Total damages came out to $500.

Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Kenneth Cooper made the arrest.
