The Florida Secretary for the Department of Children & Families, George Sheldon, paid a visit to the Children's Advocacy Center in Sebring last Tuesday.

He was in town to meet with state Rep. Denise Grimsley and was offered a tour of the center by Sheriff Susan Benton.

The Children's Advocacy Center is a private/public partnership between the Highlands County Board of Commissions and the Children's Services Foundation of Highlands County.

The center colocates all Highlands County agencies that are involved in child abuse investigations and treatment to minimize trauma and provide prevention support to families needing assistance in keeping them intact.

The Department of Children and Families' local office is scheduled to move into the CAC at the end of 2009 after the center's present expansion project is completed.
