Remember when you had all the time in the world?

It's a good thing that being old is not wasted on the young. I can recall several years ago that I had all the time in the world to get everything done that I wanted to do and still had enough time to get in plenty of play and pleasure. Since my retirement it seems that there are just not enough hours in the week, let alone the days, to finish hardly anything completely. More and more often I have to get someone to do the jobs that were so easy to do a few years back.

The hurrier I go the behinder I get

Already it's almost noon and I have been busy getting my part of the house cleaned up enough for the PW's house cleaning helper to do some spicking and spanning and vacuuming.

I am not and never have been one who puts things back from where they came immediately after I have finished a job. It's really nothing more than procrastination. I figure I can clean up after a short break. Then something will come up that needs my attention or needs to get done and CRS sets in. I am not going to tell you what CRS is. Anyone over 60 knows; if you are not old enough to know you will soon learn with just a few more years of experience.

Wasted Motion Theory

An example was when I went out to get this morning's paper. I got up from watching a repeat of the morning TV news and took my coffee cup to the cupboard and fixed a cup of coffee, then opening the trash cupboard to put away the sugar wrapper remembered it was trash pickup day.

I pulled it out and took it into the garage and emptied it into the plastic bag and refilled the trash can with a new plastic bag. I then took that out to the curb, picked up the paper, then remembered I needed to feed the fish and had to go back to the front entrance to get the fish food. Of course they appreciated the morning feeding and all eight had smiles for me.

Going back into the house I thought it would be a good idea to get the computer going so that I could read my mail and get started on this week's column. With that done I got my coffee and went to the recliner and saw my dress shoes were still in the TV room, picked them up and taking them into the bedroom closet saw my night stand was cluttered and cleaned that up.

I got all of that done but I still have not read the paper and my coffee got cold.

Great expectations lost

I must have been way over exuberant in what I thought was a great offer to those who have a family member serving overseas. I did not receive even one e-mail or phone call asking about the free week of camping at the Elks Youth Camp to those military families who have children between the ages of 8 to16 years of age. Perhaps I was overestimating the number of those here in our area that may be qualified. Anyway, if this offer of free camping to military families is of interest to anyone please keep in mind that next spring the same offer will be available.
