The Friends of Lake Placid Memorial Library are sponsoring a free seminar facilitated by former caterer Jo Ann Hatton that will show just how easy it is to prepare tasty meals using pantry items and no electricity.
The seminar will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5 at the library, 205 W. Interlake Blvd., in Lake Placid.
Bad storms and their big sibling, the hurricane, are a fact of life for those who live in the southeastern United States. It is not unusual to be without electricity for a period of time. It's wise to have a generator or a backyard barbecue to prepare food, but not everyone can afford a generator or is inclined toward backyard grilling. That's why it might even be wiser to learn how easy it is to prepare food without electricity.
Hatton plans to demonstrate the preparation of a breakfast, lunch and dinner using recipes from a book called "The Storm Gourmet," which was written by Daphne Nikolopoulos.
Seating is limited to 15 people. Call 699-3705 to reserve a seat.
