Faulty signs

I noticed something a little strange while driving south on U.S. 27 the other day.

About a quarter mile south of I 4, there is a sign; you know the big green ones which says Sebring 51 miles.

Well, after driving about 5 miles further, there is another big green sign which states that Sebring is now 50 miles away. I only got one mile closer after traveling five more miles; hmm!

Another sign four miles down U.S. 27 now has Sebring at 52 miles to go.

I just drove nine miles and Sebring is now one mile farther away than when I saw the first road sign.

Has anyone else noticed the wacky miles to Sebring signs? I wonder which part of the D.O.T. was responsible for determining the mileage and putting up the signs.
