In response to Randy Ludacer's letter, "Stars and Bars," that appeared on Thursday, July 9. This is the first time I have ever agreed with Mr. Ludacer; he hit a home run this time.
The Civil War was a bloodbath and the bottom line was slavery. Where would we be if President Lincoln had not stayed the course and preserved the Union? I believe that when the Civil War was over, President Lincoln had the band play "Dixie" at the White House (if my memory serves me correctly.)
I don't believe that if the South had won, Confederate President Davis would have played "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Excellent article Mr. Ludacer.
