Two Highlands County motorists sustained injuries from a two-vehicle accident Sunday night on U.S. 27 (State Road 25) and Raley Road.
A 2002 Acura was southbound on State Road 25, in the left turning lane for Raley Road. The driver, Inez Ramirez Sanchez, 39, of Sebring, then attempted a U-turn, but failed to yield the right-of-way to a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The front of the motorcycle, driven by Jason Michael Pearson, 28, of Avon Park, "T-boned" the right side of Sanchez's vehicle, the FHP said. The motorcycle overturned and both it and the driver slid 45 feet before the motorcycle came to rest on the east shoulder facing north.
Sanchez's Acura rotated counterclockwise and came to rest partially on the raised median, facing southbound, according to the FHP.
Pearson was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition, while Sanchez was transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center in serious condition. The total damage was estimated at $9,000. Charges are said to be pending, according to the FHP.
Trooper Patrick J. Roberts investigated the crash.
