Expo Off The Ground At Sebring Airport

Bone-chilling cold temperatures Thursday - not to mention having to remove frost from vehicle windows - didn't seem to deter people from visiting the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo's opening day at Sebring Regional Airport.

"We're very pleased with the crowd," said Bob Wood, chairman of the event. "It was the best Thursday we've had."

Despite the cold, Wood said the wind didn't present a problem as there were powered parachute demonstration flights Thursday afternoon.

A total of 174 spaces had been rented as of Friday morning. Wood was still renting space then.

"We're quite pleased with that given the state of the economy," he said of the number of vendors at the expo. "People are interested in LSA.

"Sebring has become a known location for purely light sport aircraft," Wood added.

In its fifth year, the expo is focused on light sport aircraft, Sport Pilot and related LSA certificates.

The expo continues today and concludes Sunday.

Gates open at 8 a.m. Exhibits will be open from 9 to 5 p.m. today.

Admission is $10. Parking costs $5.

The airport is located at 128 Authority Lane.
