Avon Park Bombing Range

»  Comments | Post a Comment

How many people read every last page in the Highlands Today? I did today; a nice quiet Sunday, and guess what I found? It was an announcement from the U.S. Navy.
The Navy has announced that it has indefinitely suspended its plans to drop live bombs at the Avon Park Bombing Range; why? Well not because of the hundreds of signatures my sister and I were able to collect standing out in front of Big Lots last year, to protest it. Seems just like all of us "plain folks," the Navy is short of funds.
This is an answer to our prayers. Now our drinking water is no longer threatened by the dropping of live 2,000-pound bombs, leaving all kinds of chemicals for us to consume and the chance of someday being the accidental target of a very large bomb is gone. Again I say "Thank you God."
