A local man remained in jail Friday on a $20,000 bond after his Thursday arrest on kidnapping, battery and burglary charges.
Nathaniel Waugh, 24, of Lake Placid, faces counts of misdemeanor battery, felony battery by strangulation, kidnapping and burglary with assault or battery.
The suspect allegedly struck the victim across the back with a stick/club before dragging the person into a single-wide trailer against their will, thus committing kidnapping, according to the arrest report.
Once inside the trailer, Waugh reportedly began strangling the victim.
Highlands County Sheriff's Office Deputy Lars Kirkegard IV made the arrest.
In a separate case, a Sebring woman was arrested Thursday on charges of battery of a law enforcement officer, among other counts.
Dawn Nicole Campbell, 35, of 1228 Melody Lane, Sebring, faces two counts of battery on an officer and one count each of resisting an officer with violence, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence. She remained in jail Friday on a $5,500 bond.
Members of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office's Special Investigations Unit responded to the aforementioned address in reference to a subject with an active warrant, according to the arrest report.
When deputies entered the home, one reportedly saw a homemade pipe sitting on a kitchen counter top. The suspect grabbed it and began walking away at a fast pace toward her bedroom, the report stated.
Campbell began "thrashing around" and kicking after she was directed to the ground by law enforcement. She was given several commands to stop resisting, although they were met with negative results.
The suspect allegedly scratched one of the deputies on his left arm and kicked him on the left hand and right arm in an attempt to escape. A second deputy was also kicked on the left arm and hand, causing small injuries, the report stated.
Campbell was eventually secured in hand restraints and the pipe was retrieved from her right fist. It was field tested and reportedly came back positive for the presence of cocaine.
HCSO Deputy Michael Grieco Jr. made the arrest.
