The Highlands County Sheriff's Office is continuing an active investigation into the discovery of a body inside a burned vehicle Nov. 29 in Hardee County.
"I fully expect a successful conclusion here soon," said Capt. Randy LaBelle, with the HCSO, on Wednesday.
LaBelle added that there are persons of interest in the case, although he would not divulge their identities since it is an on-going investigation.
The remains of Dwight Clyde Williams, 46, a citizen of Jamaica, were found on Old Town Creek Road in Hardee County in the trunk of a burned vehicle. The victim had been living in Highlands County under the alias Malik Addullah Muhammad at the time of his death. The name was withheld until late December, so proper identification could be determined.
Originally, the Hardee County Sheriff's Office was heading up the investigation, with Highlands County assisting because of a local connection. The state fire marshal's office was also helping.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact Detective Jamie Davidson with the Highlands County Sheriff's Office at 863-402-7250.
