Two articles dated Feb. 10 have me seeing red.
The first titled "Ga. Kid's Balloon Bundle Floats to Sebring" celebrates the horrible practice of allowing balloons with their attendant strings go free. I would have hoped by now everyone would realize what a danger this is to wildlife. And for schools and newspapers to condone it.
The second in a syndicated column by Froma Harrop regarding greyhounds states, "Massachusetts recently voted to ban dog racing by 2010. That's too bad. The sport was said to be cruel to animals but greyhounds are born to run, and they eventually find their way into loving homes. Without dog racing, sadly, fewer greyhounds will be brought into this world."
Said to be cruel? 7,500 - 20,000 greyhounds are euthanized each year, according to the Humane Society, and not always in a humane fashion. Froma Harrop, perhaps if you think their lives are so wonderful, you would like to spend some time in their kennels?
