Jim Polatty is planning on leaving his job as director of development services for Highlands County.

Highlands County commissioners learned of that in a Jan. 21 e-mail "status report" on various county issues sent by county Administrator Michael Wright.

"After meeting with Jim Polatty this morning, he is beginning the process to hunt a new job in earnest," Wright said in the e-mail. "I would anticipate needing to fill his position in about 90 days."

Polatty has been development services director for more than 14 years, since June 1994.

At a current salary of $92,876, he oversees the county's planning, zoning, code enforcement, building permits and housing operations.

Polatty was in meetings Thursday afternoon and could not be reached for comment.

Wright was out of town on Thursday and could not be reached.

Before coming to Highlands County, Polatty worked under Wright in another Florida county.

In his most recent annual performance evaluation, on Oct. 10, Pollatty earned the "exceptional" rating, the highest of five categories. His evaluation on 10 aspects of performance scored 92 out of 100.

He also earned the "exceptional" performance rating in his previous evaluation.
