Lakeview Christian School Holds Science Workshop

Lakeview Christian School students hosted a True Science Workshop recently presented by Project Creation.

Project Creation is a traveling creation education ministry based in Tennessee.

The kindergarten through fifth-grade students participated in a hands-on lab experience as they learned about the effects of air pressure, worked with the laws of motion, observed the effects of water density, studied gravity, electricity and magnetism, created compounds, determined if common substances were acids or bases and looked at rock and fossil formation.

Fourth-grader Kiersten Waldron said, "I really liked the explosion with dry ice and water in a two-liter bottle. I had so much fun at the workshop.

"We stuck our hands in water with blue food coloring, salt and an egg. Our hands were blue for two days. We learned a lot of things, but the cool thing is God made everything which is amazing. It's better than Pepsi bottles exploding."

Third-grader Aliyah McLean said that scientist Sean Meek passed out some pieces of dry ice to the students.

"When you squeeze dry ice, your fingers start to sting and burn. I put the dry ice on a spoon and it jumped. It jumped up and down really fast. It was so cool," she said.

Joshua Crouch, a fifth-grader, said he enjoyed "watching an egg jump up and down before it squeezed itself through the neck of the jar."

Students learned that science is interesting and fun. Each one had a favorite activity, but the No. 1 favorite was causing the soda bottle explosion.
