In the 1970s, the quality of automobiles declined; 100,000 miles was nearly the end of the road for a Ford Pinto or a Dodge Neon.
Today, with computers to detect trouble, slick synthetic oil and better built engines, a well-maintained Silverado or Camry lasts 50 percent longer.
A 2006 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report said the typical passenger car surpasses 150,000 miles, while light trucks and SUVs cross 180,000 miles.
How's your car doing? Has the odometer crossed 200,000? Anyone with 250,000 or 300,000? How did you do it?
