Random Christmas thoughts for the day after

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Most people enjoyed the presents they opened yesterday, the rest are in exchange lines today. And don't forget that today is the first day of the after Christmas sales. Happy shopping.

Every once in a while we should just sit back, relax and enjoy what we have and today's that day.

Remember the peace and happiness we shared in the days leading up to Christmas? Wouldn't it be nice if we could continue the feeling year round? That would really make for a wonderful life.

Right about now I'm not sure what is fuller, my belly after yesterday's feast or my credit card after this month's shopping.

Yesterday was a special day. Let us pray that political correctness does not dilute its meaning or undermine the foundations upon which it was built.

A day of true thanksgiving
Christmas is more than just a day of joy, it's a frame of mind.

Happiness is watching others open the presents you bought them more than opening those they bought for you.

Rest is for the wicked it is said. If that's true then I'm going to have an evil day today.

I got a gift card from a friend and when I took it to the store I was told I owed them. Times are truly tough. I guess all that stimulus money hasn't trickled down to us yet.

So what are you going to do with your holiday turkey carcass or hambone? I vote for soup. Especially split pea soup.

Trash collectors take it easy today, cause Monday is just around the corner. But I would imagine that an awful lot of the stuff on the tree lawns is lightweight paper wrapping and boxes. Let's hope it doesn't rain.

My goodness, will we finally escape "Deck the Halls" and "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen"?

As I look back over this year's holiday season I would rate it as good as those of past years. Each year we make of it what we want. The important thing is that the spirit of the season is kept alive and well.

So now it's time to pack away the lights and ornaments to be untangled next year when we hope that the Christmas advertisements don't start appearing until at least after Labor Day. And one last time, Merry Christmas to you all.

It's later than you think
In just six days it's going to be 2010. Wow, how time flies. It seems like just one year ago we were making New Year's resolutions for 2009 and now it's time for us to do it again. I guess the easiest thing for us to do is to dust off last year's resolutions and re-resolve that this year you'll try to keep them for more them for more than a day or two.

This year, 2009, was one memorable year. One full of surprises. Both happy and disappointing. I just hope for you the former outweighs the later. Only you can judge which column got the most attention for you.

There were some happy occasions for me: I tracked down an old Air Force buddy that I haven't communicated with in over 50 years. Then, of course, there was the hurricane-less season. On the fence was the latest Harry Potter movie. I was excited when it was released, but disappointed when I saw it. It was filmed in way too much darkness. I had trouble seeing the characters. Also the new director created new backgrounds. Directors have made more changes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the past five years than occurred to the school since its founding 1,000 years ago. Why do filmmakers have to do this? I wonder what dastardly deeds they have planned for the last in the series?

Anyway 2010 should be another exciting year. You (whoever that might be) voted for change so I expect we'll see a lot of it.

Overheard at the checkout counter: May 2010 be as memorable for you as 2009 was for me.
